According to Mark Gurman, the most recent model of Apple’s long-rumored mixed reality headset has the company’s just-announced M2 system-on-a-chip and 16GB of RAM. Along with information on a “deluge” of gadgets expects to ship over the next year, including a new HomePod speaker, the Bloomberg writer offered the snippet of information in his most recent Power On newsletter.
The Verge notes that the majority of previous claims, such as those from The Information and Apple’s analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, have predicted the augmented and virtual reality headgear will include two CPUs. One of the SoCs would, in Kuo’s estimation, have the same capabilities as the company’s M1 processor, whilst the other would be a less sophisticated chip made to manage sensor data.
Based in part on knowledge from sources within Apple’s supply chain, Kuo has frequently made well-informed forecasts about the company’s plans in the past. He projected that product will “likely” debut in January in a long analysis of the VR headset market that was released on Thursday.
