Apple Watch Face World Timer Spotted at WWDC 21

Apple has introduced new capabilities for Apple Watch users with watchOS 8, including a new Mindfulness app, photo sharing, and more. Each new watchOS release includes new watch faces, but Apple has only introduced one new watch face this year: Portraits. However, during one of the WWDC 2021 sessions, it was disclosed that Apple is working on a new watch face named “World Timer,” which has yet to be announced.

Apple shows a screenshot of the Watch app in one of the demos during the “What’s New in UIKit” session, highlighting the newest upgrades and upgrades to the iOS user interface framework. Surprisingly, this screenshot exposes a new watch face that the brand has never released. The new watch face, dubbed World Timer, features a world map with time zones for dozens of cities all around the globe.

Similar to GMT watches, which inspired one of the new watch faces in watchOS 7 last year, this duplicates several older mechanical watch models that also show the time zones of numerous cities across the world. On the other hand, GMT watches can only show the time in two different time zones at the same time.

It’s unclear whether Apple expects to release the World Timer watch face with the next-generation Apple Watch and the official release of watchOS 8 later this year, or if it wasn’t finalized in time for watchOS 8 beta 1. Apple only showed two new watch faces for watchOS 7 at WWDC 2020 last year, saving the rest for the September presentation. This could point to Apple’s new policy of releasing new watch faces alongside the debut of a new Apple Watch model rather than during a developer event, similar to how final iOS versions offer even more new wallpapers.
